Varaztad Kazanjian is a pioneer surgeon and first Professor of Plastic Surgery at Harvard. He is recognized for several notable reconstructive techniques to reconstruct the face and nose using tissue flaps.
Born in Erzincan, an Armenian city in the Ottoman Empire, he immigrated to the United States in October 1895 and settled in Worcester, Massachusetts.
In 1895, the brutual massacres of Armenians in the Ottoman Empire are known as the Hamidian massacres and preceded the Armenian Genocide of 1915.
