Prunus armeniaca: Armenian apricot
Prunus armeniaca
Armenian apricot
The most popular species of apricots in Europe and the Near East is known as Prunus armeniaca (Armenian prune). Ironically, 2012 output of worldwide apricot production lists Turkey as the second highest producer of apricots, overshadowing the Republic of Armenia's output, despite the fact that much of the agricultural output of the Armenian Highlands was expropriated by the Republic of Turkey during the Armenian Genocide. The production of apricots in the Armenian Highlands remains high.
